Originally I chose the movie Reign Over Me, but then decided that movie was too boring to watch multiple times and chose Tristan and Isolde instead, a film that has more deeper meaning. The author disects German poet, Gottfried’s poem of Tristan and Isolde from the beginning of their relationship to the very end, while […]

Reign Over Me is a complicated film that will interest you, at times bore you, but most of all broaden your perspective of the world around you. I love this film for its complication in the beginning it keeps the viewer interested because you have no idea why the character Charlie Fineman has no recollection of his old college roommate. It will bore you at times for its slow plot and the inevitable character growth, and it will truly show you the world in a new light after the affects of September 11, 2001. This film asks a critical question, what are the affects of losing a family? Charlie Fineman tragically lost his wife, three young daughters, and family dog during the September 11 terrorist attack when their plane was hijacked. He now lives a life in denial of his past as a way of repressing the pain of his loss. Where he once was a successful dentist he now has no job, and lives his life with a personality disorder, pretending he never had a family and listens to music whenever he begins to think of his past.

Michael Moore’s Sicko

In Michael Moore’s documentary, Sicko, he unravels the truth behind America’s corupt Healthcare system. His argument states that the United States does not have an adequate Healthcare system that provides the needs to citizens and is affordable. In the begining of the film several Americans give first hand accounts of how insurance companies have ignored their customers healthcare needs causing further damage and in some cases death. Insurance companies are expected to support their customers when healthcare in needed, but from Moore’s documentary it gives the message that insurance companies main concern is of how much money they can save by denying people healthcare.

Moore’s film techiniques help argue his point by adding music that pertains to the emotions of the American citizens suffering from poor health due to their insurance companies not supporting them and the high prices of medical attention and medication. An example of Moore pulling on his audiences heart strings was when he showed the after math of the September 11th terrorist attack, then leading into the stories of the 9/11 rescue workers health concerns from the aftermath. These rescue workers helped move the bodies from the broken rubble, and where they were once recognized by their country as heros they are now forgotten and struggiling just to survive. Moore then takes these three sick rescue workers to Cuba to recieve affordable medical attention and dispalying the emotions of the heros after being treated by understanding doctors and being able to buy affordable medicine.

Had Michael Moore decided to write his documentary, Sicko, as an essay he would have been unable to attract the attention of viewers in the same way. With the use of film Moore was able to show people the difficulties of recieving good affordable healthcare. Such as when he takes a large quantity of peopel to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba to revieve the “same healthcare as Al Queada”. The tower at Guantanamo Bay does not respond to Moore asking for medical attention, so the group of 9/11 rescue workers he brought on his voyage, enter the country of Cuba. Americans have been warned that Cuba is a dangerous place and this country should be avoided for safety of their lives, but while filming in Cuba the Cuban people do not show any signs of danger to the Americans, they seem welcoming. If Moore had written an essay he could have described his voyage to Guantanamo Bay and the Cuban people, but he would not have been able to capture the reactions from the tower guards, or lack of reaction.Which adds to one of the central messages of Moore’s documentary that the United State’s government is attempting to control our lives in aspects outside of their control.

Michael Moore Summary Quotations

“Did Michael Moore interpret recent American History effectively and with sophistication? Did he violate unwritten but generally acknowledged rules concerning responsible communication through documentary cinema? Were the accusations true or false? Did his political cinema have an impact on public opinion?”

I chose this quote because it is these questions that the author claims to answer throughout the review, yet none of these questions are throughly answered, the author decides to take a different approach.

“Toplin’s analysis is divided into six chapters, which serve to answer the four questions posed in his introduction”.

This quotation includes the author stating that the four answers were broken down into chapters in the novel. The author writes about the different chapters in Toplin’s book, but they do not pertain to the questions. Instead they address topics of Moore’s credentials and comparing this documentary with two novels that have similar topics.

Michael Moore F 9/11 Summary

The Michael Moore review from Antoinette Winstead, breaks down the main details from Robert Brent Toplin’s review relating to Farheniet 9/11. The reviewer begins with stating questions pertaining to Moore’s film of it’s morality and truthfulness. The review claims to then explain the questions and how Moore’s film relates to them, yet instead it explains his history in film making and techniques. In Winstead’s first attempt to explain the questions previously stated she begins by telling of Moore’s credentials with previous documentaries and then leads into his seven comedic approaches. The author then tells of how Moore’s documentary could have inspired speculation in the 2004 presidental election with candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry, and concludes with an attempt to compare Moore’s film with two books that came out around the same time with similar topics. Overall this review did not seem effective and was a little misleading, it told the reader it would explain one thing and then explained another.

The new and improved version of Casino Royale is an excellent reenactment of the 1967 version with more action and entertainment than ever before. Generally I prefer watching a movie that has meaning behind the plot and makes me think while watching, but the 2006 version of Casino Royale staring Daniel Craig keeps me at the edge of my seat with the constant action and the wondering of what Daniel Craig’s character, James Bond, will do next. The updated movie stayed with the same plot as the 1967 version in that James Bond, a new 007 agent, has entered a poker game in attempt to win all of the winnings and catch the international terrorist Le Chiffre. In Mr.Bond’s case this is easier said than done, along the way he is nearly poisoned to death, in a high speed car chase (in an incredibly stunning aston martin), and falls in love along the way. This movie is meant for pure entertainment and will keep you interested in what James Bond’s next move will be the entire time watching, this is definitely a must see.

I love the axe bow chika wow wow commercials, everytime I watch them I feel like I could die from laughter! The Axe product, body spray for men, always set up their commercials as if to say “wear this body spray and women can’t help but be attracted to you”.  In this particular commercial a young woman is taking a typical trip to the grocery store with an elderly man in a wheelchair when all of a sudden she smells the scent of Axe body spray and reacts to the scent it. Obviously women do not typically react this way to any scent of body spray, Axe is giving a comedic view to how their body spray can “change your life”.
